Amount of Sawyer jury verdict upheld
The judge who presided over the Sawyer case, the third party law suit decided in Wisconsin in April 2001, has upheld the amount of $5 million awarded by the jury to the parents, the Sawyers. Judges often reduce large jury awards. At the start of the trial the judge had given it as his opinion to the lawyers that the highest likely verdict would be for $1 million, if the case were won. This jury award was the second highest ever awarded in a psychotherapy malpractice case. The four highest jury verdicts in psychotherapy cases have all been in false memory cases.
